As terrified children, ripped from the arms of their asylum-seeking parents, shiver and cry in prison-like detention centers on the southern border of the United States, people on both sides of the aisle are crying out for action. Because the problems at play here go beyond politics and even ethics. According to experts, this situation is also bound to create some seriously negative health outcomes for the families involved, which are likely to reverberate long after the parents and children meet again- whenever that may be.
